Wednesday Weekly Geek...on thursday

I think Blogger was having some issues yesterday, so I wasn't able to post anything last night, so you're getting the Wednesday Weekly Geek today!

A few months ago, my good friend, Derrick, told me about the blog, Regretsy. They're tagline is "Where DIY meets WTF". The blog mainly features real posts from Etsy sellers with "questionable" products. I think it's hilarious (some people don't).

But once in a while, they feature awesome products. One particular post featured cross stitch samplers from Steotch. Check out their website HERE and their Etsy store HERE.

They are AMAZING. Some of them are very geeky and I love it! Here are a few of my favorites:

Star Wars sampler

And of course...

And probably one of my favorites, a Mystery Science Theater 3000 sampler

They have tons more and not just nerdy ones. Check them out, they are awesome!

Fun Weekend

This past weekend was definitely a busy one.

On Saturday night we celebrated our friend, Jenine's, birthday at I Love Sushi. The name says it all. We love the sushi there.

We ended up at Dilettante Mocha Cafe in Capitol Hill. They are known for their chocolate and they definitely did not disappoint. We ordered coffee, chocolate martinis and assorted desserts. Everything was so delicious and decadent.

The birthday girl. Happy Birthday Jenine!

The Voltaire.
Coffee with dark chocolate. It seriously looked and tasted like melted chocolate and it was awesome.

Chocolate martinis.

Super fun night with great people and good food. What more could you ask for?

Wednesday Weekly Geek

I'm sure a lot of people have already seen the new Nintendo console coming out in 2012, the Wii U, but it's news to me!
It's an interesting one. This is the successor to the Wii and comes with a handheld device with a touchscreen. The handheld controller can be used with the console and television screen, or can be used to play the game on it's own, if the television is being used for something else. Pretty cool.

Of course, I'm most excited for the new Zelda HD game being released for the Wii U. It looks AMAZING. Here's a clip of someone playing the demo:

I'm not sure if I'll be buying one or not. I use my Nintendo DS a lot more than any stationary platform, so if anything I'll probably just upgrade my DS version (I still use my old Nintendo DS, it's been good to me!). But nonetheless, it is always awesome to see Nintendo's new stuff!

And that's this week's Weekly Geek.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg! So much to do.

Happy Belated Father's Day!

This post should have been put up yesterday, but I don't know what I was doing. This weekend was a blur of sleeping and television.

Anyway, Happy Belated Father's Day to my dad! I love you so, so much and I can't wait to see you folks in September!

Here are a couple of pictures of my dad from our trip to Moloka'i a few years back (with some flowery decorations. Hee hee.):
Love you!

Crafts: A New ATC Swap

I hadn't done an ATC (Artist Trading Card) swap in forever, so I was very excited when my very good friend, Shannon O., suggested we trade some. Shannon is an AMAZING artist back home in Hawaii who I was very lucky to meet while we both worked at the Vans Shoes Outlet in Waikele Shopping Center.

Check out her art on her website HERE. And read more about ATCs HERE.

We decided it would be a free theme and here's the great Karen O. ATC she made for me:
Look! It's right next to my Karen O. picture on my inspiration board. :)

Shannon loves the Red Hot Chili Peppers, so I thought I would make a RHCP ATC for her:
Usually on Swapbot I do swaps with people I don't know, so it's really nice to trade with friends. Thanks Shannon!

Crafts: Congratulations Tommy!

Yesterday was one of our best friend, Tommy's, graduation from the University of Washington. In Hawaii, it's customary to give flower leis to the graduate. It gets to the point where you can't even see over them, you get so many.

Even though we're in Seattle, I wanted to give a lei to Tommy, so I made one out of some extra scrap book paper I had.

I looked up how to make some paper flowers for a lei and found a good tutorial on Instructables.
I crocheted a chain out of yarn and strung the paper flowers on it. The chain is knotted in between the flowers so there is a little space between them.
Me, Tommy and Kevin.

Congratulations, Tommy. We're so proud of you!

Pretty Headbands

Now that it's spring, I see more and more pretty headbands around, especially ones with flowers. I thought I'd give them a try; I don't usually wear headbands or pins.

I've been searching for some nice ones and found a bunch on Etsy.

So many cute headbands. How do I choose!?

Wednesday Weekly Geek

On this week's Weekly Geek, I wanted to feature a very epic Zelda painting done by Japanese artist Ag+. Zelda is my all-time favorite series of video games.

He did this incredible Zelda digital "painting" to celebrate the game's 25th anniversary.
It features characters spanning the game's 25 year history.
Click HERE to see the full size image so you can see every character and detail.

Art forms of nature

I've always loved biological/scientific illustrations. They can be so beautiful, whimsical, and sometimes a bit creepy. Some of the most classic examples were done by Ernst Haeckel (1834-1919), a German biologist, naturalist, philosopher, physician and artist.

His book, Art Forms of Nature, is full of incredibly detailed drawings.

Photobucket

I'm so amazed at how eerily beautiful nature can be. It's also incredible how scientists can be such talented artists. Who would have thought?

Some Photos

Now that Kevin has his fancy new camera, we've been practicing taking pictures here and there. Here are just a few random photos.

Kevin's toys on our bookshelf.
I saw these mushrooms while walking home from work. This picture has some Photoshop action.
We saw these dogs today while walking around downtown. They were just sitting there, letting people take pictures. We don't even know who they belonged to! Love the glasses.
Haha. Such a random group of pictures.

New Feature: Wednesday Weekly Geek

I wanted to present a new weekly feature on Way Out today. On Wednesdays I will post my Weekly Geek post. Every week I'll feature something geeky that I like. Pretty simple.

To start this new feature off, I thought I would do a post on...

What makes this band awesome and geeky is their music concept. The concept behind their music is completely based on the video game Megaman. And I can only describe their style as 1980's-Coheed & Cambria-rock opera. Meatloaf produced their second album and you can really hear his influence. It's fantastic.

If you haven't heard them yet, it can be a little hard to wrap your brain around the concept, but I assure you, it's pretty epic. They've managed to use the story behind Megaman and create a beautiful saga.

Here are my two favorite songs from the second album, Act II - The Father of Death:

I love their versatility in music styles. So good.

And that's this week's Weekly Geek.
