30 day song challenge: day 7

okey dokey, day 7 of the song challenge: a song that reminds you of an event.

i chose lisa loeb's "falling in love". i pretty much listened to her exclusively on our family road trip from las vegas to sedona, arizona. that was fun times.

love you lisa!

oh! and i'm home in hawaii for a little while, so expect to see more pictures of my niece, emily jay, soon!

30 day song challenge: day 6

30 day song challenge: a song that reminds you of somewhere

for today's category i chose "moloka'i slide" by ehukai. my sister, joanne, actually used this song for yesterday's category. "moloka'i slide" reminds me of home in hawaii and particularly the island of moloka'i. i went with my family a few years back to fish, catch samoan crab and camp out in some cabins. it was like nowhere else.

the descriptions in the song are so true to the islands.

30 day song challenge: day 5

today is day 4 of the 30 day song challenge: a song that reminds you of somebody

i chose "the long goodnight" by the get up kids because it reminds me of my boyfriend, kevin. the get up kids is his all time favorite band and this song is like his anthem. he's an emo kid through and through.

it's also his official funeral song.

mushroom table

it's a table fit for a mush-room. :)

i found this beauty while searching for web images of mushrooms for an atc swap.
isn't it just adorable? i love it!

30 day song challenge: day 4

day 4 of the 30 day song challenge: a song that makes you sad.

there are a few that make me sad and one of them is joni mitchell's "both sides now".

such a sad, but beautiful song.

30 day song challenge: day 3

day 3 of the 30 day song challenge: a song that makes you happy.

i'm going with "all mine" by the dance hall crashers. pretty much any dhc song puts me in a good mood.

gives me a good old dose of nostalgia.

30 day song challenge: day 2

it's day 2 of the 30 day song challenge which is "your least favorite song". this was a toughy for me. i'm not sure what my least favorite is simply because i wouldn't really listen to it often if i didn't like it. does that make sense? kind of ironic. anyway, there are a few songs i definitely don't like and this one's at the top of the list.

he's basically singing about this other girl he's seeing while his girlfriend is right in the other room. i can't condone cheating, people! lyrics include "my girl's in the next room, sometimes i wish she was you." and "you make it hard to be faithful, with the lips of an angel." wtf. and the lead singer's wannabe mick jagger moves don't help.

30 day song challenge: day 1

today is the first day of the 30 day song challenge.

day one: your favorite song

this is my all time favorite band and song. its lyrics are the inspiration behind my blog title, "way out: wonder more, want more". it makes me feel indescribable inside.

happy chair day!

kevin and i decided to go to goodwill today to look for a chair to go with my craft desk/area, and boy did we do good! as soon as we neared the chair section my eyes went straight for this retro-flower, vinyl dinette chair:
i had to have it. the year on the label read 1968 AND it was $5.

kevin found a chair too. he's always looking for more seating for our living room and he fell in love with this brown leather 1975 chair:
it's now proudly sitting in our living room. yay for chairs!

the past few days

tuesday was fun. jenine and tommy invited us over to their apartment to have a little going away dinner for phil. he just left yesterday for another season of work on a fishing boat in alaska. he'll be gone for 9 months this time, so we'll definitely miss him.
we had a good time just sitting around the table talking and laughing.

yesterday i had a chance to go down to university village. it's a super nice mall with a lot of cute shops. joanne recommended a couple of stores that were at that mall so i went to check them out.

my favorite was fireworks. i love this store. they sell great novelty and gift items, books, jewelry, bags, kitchenware and so much more.

i LOVED this cookie stamp:
and these polaroid picture frames for the wall:
now i know the perfect place to buy gifts and maybe a few things for myself.

jak's grill

last night we went to eat at jak's grill with some friends. jak's is one of my favorite places to eat in seattle. their ribeye and potato pancakes are to die for! last night we all had burgers.
[source: google images]

today, kevin has school from 12 pm - 9 pm. isn't that crazy!? so i thought i'd take a little walk down to this little market down by the lake. on the way i couldn't help but notice all these daisies along the sidewalk.
so pretty!

housewarming and movie night

last night we had a few guests over to have dinner and see our new place. i made some curry and we had some wine and cupcakes from cupcake royale thanks to jenine, tommy and derrick. those cupcakes were superb. i think the chocolate cupcake with salted caramel frosting was my favorite.

after dinner we went to see inception with leonardo dicaprio and ellen page. all i have to say is WOW.
this film was absolutely AMAZING. we went into the theater not completely clear on what the movie was about, but we knew that it was going to be good. best movie i've seen in a while. i don't want to give anything away, so i'll just say i highly recommend it.

kinokuniya

today we went to uwajimaya, a great asian market where we buy all of the food we usually get at home in hawaii (ex. nori, ramen, curry, and even zippy's food).

today, though, we went to kinokuniya, a japanese book store that is located inside uwajimaya. i wanted to look at their craft and stationary section. joanne would be so proud of me! i bought my first japanese masking tapes; she loves those!
they're so pretty and versatile. check out some of joanne's japanese masking tape projects here and here.

i was also super happy because i found another notepad of natto-san. he's a cute natto bean character. i love him and i love natto. :)
yay for japanese stationary!

kappa atc swap

so many atc swaps have been completed lately! this one was a kappa atc swap. i love the kappa; it's such a creepy creature. learn more about kappas here.

here's the atc i made for my partner. i wanted to make a cute kappa instead of a scary one.
this was the first time i had a really hard time giving an atc away! i loved him so much, but i can always make another one.

here's the atc my partner sent me:
i just love this guy!

i recently hosted a golden girls atc swap on swap-bot and it's all sent out and done. about nine people signed up.

here's the atc i sent my partner.
dorothy is my favorite, so i HAD to do a dorothy atc.

here's what my partner sent:
i just received it yesterday. i love the "stay golden" logo.

my sister, joanne, was one of the participants. you can see her golden girls atc here.

Places: Tulalip Casino

yesterday we went with kevin's parents to the tulalip casino. it's the largest native american casino in washington and it's about a 40-45 minute drive there from where we live. it was fun to gamble a little; i felt like i was in las vegas. kevin and i played a bit on the video poker machines.
[source: google images]

then we went to the temptations and the four tops concert held there.
here are the four tops. it was fun to sing along to all the songs!

i can't wait for my parents to come and visit so i can take them to the casino. i know they'll have fun; especially my mom! haha.

Places: Urban Craft Uprising

the urban craft uprising was held this past weekend at seattle center. i was so excited! kevin and i went on saturday afternoon. there was so much creativity in one place that we both got so inspired to create more.
here's a little look down one of the aisles.

we bought a print by jill bliss to decorate our apartment.
isn't it beautiful? i love her intricate patterns. you can see more of her work and goods for sale here.

we also bought a couple small vintage picture frames and some supplies for my atcs. i can't wait for the winter show!

Places: Baseball Game

aaron, bryce and brandon left for home this morning, but we had fun on our last night all together. and SURPRISE! phil is back for a a week or so before he goes off fishing in alaska. we all got to go to a seattle mariners-new york yankees baseball game yesterday at safeco field. it was my first professional baseball game. it was alright (the mariners lost), but the company is what made it fun.
the view from our seats.

then we hung out at jenine and tommy's apartment for the rest of the night. lots of fun!

visitors!

our friends aaron, brandon and bryce are in town for a few days. it's good to see them. i know kevin is super happy.
walking downtown with our javanillas from seattle's best. delicious.

we also hung around in capitol hill. there's a church on the corner of broadway and republican street that has an awesome banner.
seattle is very accepting of different sexualities, especially capitol hill. it makes my heart happy.

the guys are only staying a few days, so we'll see what we can fit in.

dr. seuss atc

finished another atc swap recently. this was a dr. seuss atc swap on swap-bot.

this was the atc i made for my partner. i used to love the book hop on pop when i was little. this card was made using cardstock, printed picture, sequins, and glitter glue.

here's the atc my partner sent to me:
this was my partner's take on green eggs and ham.

i love dr. seuss! check out my sister's dr. seuss project on her blog, emjay and me.

food days

since kevin's parents are in town to visit, we've been eating out at some great restaurants. here's some pictures from the past couple days.

yesterday we went to a great seafood place called salty's in west seattle. they had a beautiful view of the city.
here's a bird that perched by the window. we actually saw him dive in the water and catch a fish!
i had the halibut with crab meat and asparagus. it was so good.

then, today, we went to shoreline and had awesome korean food at hae nam kalbi and calamari.
sorry, the picture's kind of blurry, but i ordered the tofu soup with seafood. it was the perfect amount of spiciness. i thought of my sister while eating; i know she would have loved it.

so much good food in so little time. i think i gained 10 pounds since sunday!

happy 4th of july!

happy independence day, everyone.

it would be so fun to host a 4th of july party. you could make cute decorations like these pretty paper stars. unfortunately it was a rainy day today, so we would have had to celebrate inside. but the rain did clear up so we could watch the firework show over eastlake.
pictures don't do it any justice. it was a beautiful display.

hope everybody had a great weekend. and get well, emily jay; i hear she's feeling under the weather. I LOVE YOU, EMJAY!

random cuteness

here's a little picture i found online.
[source: google images]

i recently signed up for a peanuts character atc swap on swap-bot and was searching for pictures online. isn't it adorable? genius!

ghost adventures

another day, another post about the shows we watch on netflix!

a while back i was flipping through channels and came across a paranormal investigation show called "ghost adventures". in this show, 3 guys, armed with cameras, audio recorders and other instruments, are locked into various haunting sites overnight. there was something about this show that i so enjoyed. i think it was their reactions to the creepy occurrences; they basically freak out, screaming, "dude!" and "bro!" haha, so good. plus, they taunt and egg on the spirits, encouraging them to harass the 3 men.
now kevin and i get to watch them on netflix! these guys crack me up. so entertaining.

anyway, kev's parents are coming in to visit tomorrow morning. better finish up the laundry and apartment cleaning.
