What I Wore: Folklife Edition

Here's what I wore to the Folklife Festival this weekend:
As you can tell, I like green a lot.
The top is a vintage Christian Dior sweater I found at Red Light Vintage.
My jeans are Levi's. Pretty much all of my pants are Levi's.
Shoes are Vans (represent!).
And my purse is from Spotted Moth.
Kevin calls it my Bowser bag because of the spikes. A very fitting name!

Places: Folk Life 2011

This weekend is the annual Northwest Folk Life Festival held at Seattle Center. Kevin and I met up with our friend, Derrick, to check it out yesterday. It was great! The Folk Life Festival is a chance for the community to celebrate folk, ethnic and traditional culture.

They have music, dancing, crafts and lots and lots of food from all different cultures.
We ate Kenyan sambusa, Southern peach cobbler and strawberry lemonade.
They had some arts and crafts too. Here's some vinyl artwork by Manticore Stencil Art.
I'll take a Nimbus 2000, please.
There were tons of performances too.
There were so many good performers and we especially liked the Capoeira demonstration.
I'm so glad we got a chance to go, it was so fun!

i love i love lucy

Borders recently had a 50% off coupon and I figured I'd make really good use out of it and buy something I've always wanted but didn't buy because it's kind of pricey.

So I bought...THE I LOVE LUCY COMPLETE SERIES!!!!
This show seriously helped to shape who I am today. I've been watching it since elementary school and it has always been a favorite. Lucille Ball is such a genius and I still crack up laughing even though I've seen every episode a billion times.
I was so excited when it finally arrived in the mail. So guess what we're watching all weekend...
Oh man, I love these guys. :)

Thrifting: Today's Vintage Find

I had an urge to go thrifting today, so I dragged Kevin to the local Goodwill right after work just to get a quick thrift fix.

I found this great vintage, woven, daisy mat for our table. Our cookie jar looks fantastic on it.
Also, Kevin got his new Canon T3I DSLR camera today and he let me try it out. It's so great! Can't wait to take more pictures.

Books: I need this book!

My next book store mission is to find this book:
I originally saw it on the Craft: Blog.

It has projects like this:
And this:
Off to the book store!

Speaking of books, our tiny little "book club" has chosen its first book to read and discuss. Book number one is Neuromancer by William Gibson.
It's supposed to be one of the must read sci-fi books of all time. My cousin suggested it and said it has influenced pretty much every sci-fi story written since. I'll let you know how it is!

bored at work?

Make a staple fly.

1. Bend a used staple.
2. Draw a dot and put the staple on it.
3. Sit back and admire your work.

Voila! A staple fly!
Quite possibly the most pointless post ever. :)

lil' kevin drawings

I don't know how the subject came up, but Kevin and I started discussing about how all little boys draw super muscley guys. And it's true! He could remember exactly how he used to draw them and demonstrated for me:
Look how HUGE the arms are and how small his head is. Needless to say, I was cracking up. I love how one foot is way bigger than the other and that he's wearing Hulk shorts. I bet EVERY guy remembers drawing a picture like this.

Then he proceeded to show me the little chubby character he used to draw when he was little:
Haha. I guess he always had that artist blood in him.

They were so funny, I just had to share.

Gnarls Barkley

Gnarls Barkley is great. Not only are Cee Lo and Danger Mouse super talented but they're fun and nerdy too!

Some of my favorite photo shoots:
And here's their awesome song and video for Go Go Gadget Gospel:

Thank you, Derrick, for showing us this video. And thank you for making this awesome picture of Kevin and me. Plant 'stache!! Check out Derrick's blog, The Easier Bake Oven.
Look familiar? It's the mustache plant from my last post!

around the neighborhood

Here's a couple pictures from around the neighborhood this week. Spring is here...sort of. The flowers are nice, but the temperature and clouds aren't. :(
There are a bunch of these trees lining the street. So pretty!
I HAD to take a picture of this plant. It's all wilted, but c'mon, it looks like a mustache! Random, but I love it.

andrew w.k. (we want fun and you better believe it!!!!)

I LOVE Andrew W.K.

For those of you who don't know him, he is a musician, songwriter and entertainer. He's known for his intense dancing and bleeding on stage. At first he seems so crazy and strange, but as you get to know more about him, you realize he's such an awesome, positive person. He's also very intelligent and well spoken. Some of you may remember the Kit Kat commercial featuring his song.

A lot of people may not know that he is a great motivational speaker as well. Here he is on Fox News talking a bit about this endeavor.

And just for fun here's my favorite Andrew W.K. song and video: She is Beautiful

I think 'intense' is the perfect adjective to describe him. Such a good guy. :)

What I Wore Today

Apparently, these types of posts are super popular in the blog-o-sphere, so I thought I'd give it a go. Here's what I wore today.
The office I work in is pretty casual. I love that I can wear jeans to work!
Top from Anthropologie.
Jeans are Levi's.
My favorite boots are by Steve Madden.
Topped off with my clock hands necklace by Lucky Brand.

Wore my hair in a bun today, but say goodbye to those locks. It's haircut day tomorrow! Wish me luck!

dangly earring kind of gal?

I've never really worn dangly earrings, but I do think a lot of them are pretty. If I say I wish I were into dangly earrings, does that mean I am into them? Maybe I'm just not used to them, so it seems like they would look odd on me.

Here are some I'd really like to try sometime.

Victorian button earrings from Betsy & Iya.

Leaf earrings from Alisha Louise Designs.

Brass spike earrings from Lumafina.

The awesome thing is that all these sellers are going to be at the Urban Craft Uprising's Summer Show at Seattle Center in July. So excited. Might have to buy me some!

What's In My Bag?

Here's a little view into my 'EDC' or Everyday Carry.
I don't carry anything too fancy or high tech. I'm not exactly the most technologically savvy person around and I'm just starting to learn a tiny bit about Photoshop as you can see by the fancy schmancy numbers in my picture. Kevin's a pro at Photoshop, so I'm glad I have such a good teacher.
  1. Burt's Bees Lip Gloss. It has a slight hint of color. Perfect for times when I need some moisture and a touch of color to my face.
  2. My Traveler's Stone. Turquoise is considered to be a traveling stone that keeps the traveler safe from harm. It was a gift from my dear friend, Shannon O., and I ALWAYS keep it with me.
  3. My Samsung Gravity 2 w/Hello Kitty phone charm. I was just excited to get a phone with a QWERTY board.
  4. My keys, of course. I've had that Etnies keychain since high school.
  5. Smith's Minted Rose Lip Balm. The perfect lip balm. Period.
  6. Big ol' sunglasses from Urban Outfitters.
  7. Kevin's old iPod (haha). Again, don't need anything fancy. It serves its purpose.
  8. Vintage wallet from Atlas Clothing; a thrift store in Capitol Hill.
So that's pretty much it. It may change later, so I'll post again if anything new pops up in there. :)

Here she is on our road trip to Sedona, AZ. Super fun trip.

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there!

tubs subs

Today, Kevin and I took a little trip to Lake City to eat at Tubs Subs. It was my first time there and it was suggested to me by a friend who lived in Washington for a time. They're known for their awesome sandwiches.
I have to say it was a darn good sub! I got the Godfather sub; roast beef and salami with garlic mayo. Mmm hmm.
We're definitely going back there soon.

i heart ricky gervais!

I've been slowly downloading all of the Ricky Gervais audiobooks from iTunes and it's all I've been listening to on my way to and from work.

It all started when Kevin and I started watching the Ricky Gervais Show a while back. A great animated show based off of a free podcast featuring Ricky Gervais, Steve Merchant and the endlessly hilarious, dim-witted, round headed, Karl Pilkington. All of their recordings are basically Ricky, Steve and Karl having real discussions on different topics. The feature of the show, though, are Karl's thoughts. His way of thinking is so child-like and strange. I love listening to Ricky's raucous laughter as they make fun of Karl.
Here's a little clip where they discuss what super power Karl would choose:

And here they are, in the flesh, having a little pointless conversation for HBO:

So funny. Good stuff.

fremont market sunday

Sunday was such a beautiful day! There was as much sun and warmth as this little pale face could wish for. I decided to go to the Fremont open market with a couple of pals, Jess and Jenine (we're the J.Crew - get it?) to do some Mother's Day/vintage shopping.

Of course we sampled many fine foods, including these awesome pork nachos:
We also tried some brick oven pizza, thai iced tea, lemon bars and this great Danish dessert called ebelskiver. They taste like crepes, but in ball form with the filling inside.

All three of us got some great vintage buys. I found myself an awesome 1970s macrame owl to hang on our wall. I had just mentioned to Kevin about how I'd like to find one and, lo and behold, there it was at the market for $10. Woohoo!
Isn't it cute? It actually makes the apartment seem more homey for some reason.
