Crafts/Music: Weezer Memories Tour

Hi everyone! Man, there have been so many concerts the past couple of months. I've been to more shows in the past two months than I have in the past few years back home in Hawaii.

Last week we had the once in a lifetime opportunity to see Weezer's Memories Tour and it was amazing. In this tour, the band played both the Blue Album and Pinkerton in their entirety. Those two albums are pretty much their best and the only ones I really listen to, so it was a treat.

In commemoration of this event I made a cross-stitched sampler of a lyric from "Undone (The Sweater Song)":weezercrossstitchI think I'm going to start making a whole bunch of these featuring lyrics, movie quotes and book quotes that I love. What do you think?

And of course, here's a video of Weezer playing this very song at the show. Sorry for the shakiness and quality, we were really far away and kevin and i took turns holding the camera. :)

Better videos to come!

Music: I'm Back And With A Video

rxbanditsfarewellHello all! It's been almost a month since I've seen you all. Kevin and I have been up to a few things, but one of the most recent awesome events was the Rx Bandits show we went to at El Corazon.

They are one of the bands I wanted to see in my lifetime and I finally got to. Too bad it was their Farewell tour; first and last time I'll ever see them, but at least I had the chance. I remember when I worked at Vans back in Hawaii, my friend Ashley and I would play their albums in the store over and over again and talk about how amazing it would be to see them.

Needless to say, it was better than I ever imagined it would be.

Matt Embree from Rx Bandits:
rxbandits2Steve Choi from Rx:
rxbandits4I've seen so many pictures and videos of these guys that it was so surreal to see them in person.

I even got a short video of them. I had a few more, but you can hear me singing in the background of those and it's super embarrassing. Here's a snippet of their song Decrescendo:

Sorry if it's a little shaky, I was getting pushed around a bit by the crowd.

So great!

Places: San Francisco Art

sftrip3While we were in San Francisco we saw so many awesome murals and works of art I decided to do an entirely separate post about them.

Places: San Francisco 2011: Day Two

sftrip2
We started the day off at the Japanese Tea Garden at Golden Gate Park.
IMG_0490IMG_0523IMG_0512Then we bussed it to Haight-Ashbury. This is one of my favorite areas of San Francisco. There are great shops and tons of art, which I'll feature in my next post.
IMG_0538My absolute favorite shop was Loved To Death. They have awesome taxidermy, art, curiosities, and creepy little things.
IMG_0546IMG_0467And of course we loved seeing the rows of Victorian homes.

Here are more links to our favorite stores in Haight-Ashbury:

FTC - For the City: Skate design store
Super 7: Japanese influenced toys, art and design
Villians: Great men's and women's clothing
Wasteland: New and vintage clothing
Three Twins Ice Cream: Delicious organic ice cream (we got the burnt caramel and lemon cookie flavors)

Such a fantastic trip. Wish we had more time, but we'll definitely be back soon.

Places: San Francisco 2011: Day One

sftrip1
Wow! San Francisco was AMAZING as usual. Thanks for all the patience while Kevin and I recovered from our trip. It was wonderful, tiring and so, so fun.

On our first day we went to Alcatraz and took the audio tour. It was my third time taking the tour, but Kevin's first. It's so good that I enjoy it every time.

day1
Waiting for the cable car in Union Square.

On the ferry to Alcatraz.

We hung around Fisherman's Wharf and ate delicious clam chowder from Boudin's.

After lunch we took the BART to the Mission District.
IMG_0445
We had crazy good cookies and milk at Anthony's Cookies.
IMG_0453
There were TONS of vintage/thrift stores like Painted Bird.
IMG_0474
And there were unique little shops with oddities and specialties like Paxton Gate.
They carry things like taxidermy, insect specimens, plants and nature art. We bought a framed butterfly specimen for our apartment.

Also in the Mission District, is skate/street designer Benny Gold's shop. Kevin is a big fan and got to meet him in person.

It was definitely one of the highlights of the trip for him.

Here are some more links to a few of the stores we liked in the Mission:

Self Edge: Denim and clothing with tons of Japanese brands.
Aquarius Records: Vinyl and CDs
The Curiosity Shoppe: Great jewelry and little things for your home.
Shoe Biz: Awesome shoes!

That was our first day in San Francisco. Stay tuned for day two.

The San Fran plan....man

Wishing everyone a great 4th of July weekend! Kevin and I will be in San Francisco until Monday night.

I'm super excited. It's my third time there and Kevin's first, so I will be playing the part of tour guide/navigator.
Check in next week for pictures and such.

And while we're away, enjoy this song about San Francisco. It's an oldie but a goodie:

Wednesday Weekly Geek...on thursday

I think Blogger was having some issues yesterday, so I wasn't able to post anything last night, so you're getting the Wednesday Weekly Geek today!

A few months ago, my good friend, Derrick, told me about the blog, Regretsy. They're tagline is "Where DIY meets WTF". The blog mainly features real posts from Etsy sellers with "questionable" products. I think it's hilarious (some people don't).

But once in a while, they feature awesome products. One particular post featured cross stitch samplers from Steotch. Check out their website HERE and their Etsy store HERE.

They are AMAZING. Some of them are very geeky and I love it! Here are a few of my favorites:

Star Wars sampler

And of course...

And probably one of my favorites, a Mystery Science Theater 3000 sampler

They have tons more and not just nerdy ones. Check them out, they are awesome!

Fun Weekend

This past weekend was definitely a busy one.

On Saturday night we celebrated our friend, Jenine's, birthday at I Love Sushi. The name says it all. We love the sushi there.

We ended up at Dilettante Mocha Cafe in Capitol Hill. They are known for their chocolate and they definitely did not disappoint. We ordered coffee, chocolate martinis and assorted desserts. Everything was so delicious and decadent.

The birthday girl. Happy Birthday Jenine!

The Voltaire.
Coffee with dark chocolate. It seriously looked and tasted like melted chocolate and it was awesome.

Chocolate martinis.

Super fun night with great people and good food. What more could you ask for?

Wednesday Weekly Geek

I'm sure a lot of people have already seen the new Nintendo console coming out in 2012, the Wii U, but it's news to me!
It's an interesting one. This is the successor to the Wii and comes with a handheld device with a touchscreen. The handheld controller can be used with the console and television screen, or can be used to play the game on it's own, if the television is being used for something else. Pretty cool.

Of course, I'm most excited for the new Zelda HD game being released for the Wii U. It looks AMAZING. Here's a clip of someone playing the demo:

I'm not sure if I'll be buying one or not. I use my Nintendo DS a lot more than any stationary platform, so if anything I'll probably just upgrade my DS version (I still use my old Nintendo DS, it's been good to me!). But nonetheless, it is always awesome to see Nintendo's new stuff!

And that's this week's Weekly Geek.

Summer's Here!

Hooray! Today is the first day of summer and it was actually sunny. I wore a dress WITHOUT leggings, can you believe it?

This summer is going to be a busy one. Here's a little sneak peek at what's in store for the next couple of months.

Happy Belated Father's Day!

This post should have been put up yesterday, but I don't know what I was doing. This weekend was a blur of sleeping and television.

Anyway, Happy Belated Father's Day to my dad! I love you so, so much and I can't wait to see you folks in September!

Here are a couple of pictures of my dad from our trip to Moloka'i a few years back (with some flowery decorations. Hee hee.):
Love you!

Crafts: A New ATC Swap

I hadn't done an ATC (Artist Trading Card) swap in forever, so I was very excited when my very good friend, Shannon O., suggested we trade some. Shannon is an AMAZING artist back home in Hawaii who I was very lucky to meet while we both worked at the Vans Shoes Outlet in Waikele Shopping Center.

Check out her art on her website HERE. And read more about ATCs HERE.

We decided it would be a free theme and here's the great Karen O. ATC she made for me:
Look! It's right next to my Karen O. picture on my inspiration board. :)

Shannon loves the Red Hot Chili Peppers, so I thought I would make a RHCP ATC for her:
Usually on Swapbot I do swaps with people I don't know, so it's really nice to trade with friends. Thanks Shannon!
