happy belated thanksgiving!

hope everyone had an awesome stuff-your-face thanksgiving. i know i did.

kevin and i spent our turkey day with our friends jenine and tommy and jenine's mom and brother. our part of the cooking consisted of glazed ham, broccoli and cauliflower salad, mashed potatoes and a white cake with strawberries.

tah-dah!

isn't it lovely? you can try the recipe here.

jenine and tommy made the turkey, stuffing, veggies and peanut butter pie. everything was oh-so good!

i just had to take a picture; it looked so good.

i was so thankful that i got a chance to talk to my family that night on the phone. it made me a little sad to know that everyone was together and i couldn't be there, but i'll see them all soon for christmas.

update: snow is evil

the snow storm last monday really threw the city of seattle for a loop. there were cars sliding everywhere!

here's a snapshot of some cars piled up on our street. i didn't see it happen, but i assume they slid down the hill and bumped into each other. it was so bad that they just left it there for the past few days and blocked off our road.

it even made the cover of the seattle times on their website. i was like, "our street is famous!"

we had a hard time getting our car into our parking stall because of the ice, so kevin and i had to hammer at the ice and shovel it away.

it was FREEZING on tuesday and wednesday. plus we don't turn the heater on in our apartment a whole lot because we want to save on electricity. i'm starting to reexamine that decision.

i wore two scarves inside the apartment, (leopard AND zebra print) that's how cold it was!

thankfully the snow is starting to melt, so the roads are a lot safer. phew!

first snow

today was the first snow of 2010 here in seattle! it's almost 8:00 pm and it's still going. this is actually only the 4th time i've seen snow and now i have to learn how to live with it. our apartment is on the top of a hill, so kevin and i have been watching people struggle up and down in their cars. kind of scary.

this is right outside of our apartment.

SO, i decided i really need to get a more snow worthy coat. all the coats i have are wooly, so they kind of absorb the water.

i decided to get this one:
not only is it adorable, but it's water proof and lined with sherpa wool. i ordered it online and i can't wait for it to get here!

remembering aaliyah

i've been WAY into looking up old music videos, as you can see from my last few posts. it's nice to have that nostalgic feeling. it's so amazing to me how music can make you feel 15 years old again.

i have been looking for this particular aaliyah video for FOREVER and i couldn't remember what it was called. all i remembered was that it had flamenco dancing at the end. but i found it!

she was so beautiful and such a great dancer.

and of course there's this one:
it's really amazing how everything timbaland touches turns to gold.

90's music video flashback

here are some of my favorite music videos from the 90's.

i remember seeing these guys as musical guests on "all that". do you guys remember that show!?!

anyway, here's "candy rain":

now, i distinctly and vividly recall sitting on the floor in my living room with our tape deck in front of me, listening to the cassette of "crossroads" by bone thugs n harmony trying to memorize all the rapping. i think i was eleven. man, i guess i was super gangsta back then.

i still think this is an awesome video.

80's binge

i've been in this 80's music mood lately and decided to look up some music videos. i don't listen to a whole lot of 80's music, but thanks to my sister, joanne, i've been exposed to some of the good stuff.

i really love this song. although it's not the original (it was originally done by simon and garfunkel), i really enjoy this version.

there aren't too many girl bands out there that play their own instruments anymore. i can only think of sleater-kinney and the donnas.

and of course, i had to watch some cyndi lauper videos. love her style! and what an AMAZING vocal range.

i think i'll post some of my favorite 90's tunes next time.

Places: Kona Kitchen

kevin and i were starving after our target visit in northgate, so he suggested we get take out from kona kitchen, a great hawaiian plate lunch restaurant here in seattle.

kona kitchen was opened by yuji okumoto, who you may remember from karate kid 2 as daniel-san's nemesis:

we saw him there too! he was just hanging out in the restaurant with his family.

the food was pretty good. kevin and i shared a loco moco and tonkatsu. on the menu they also have kalua pig, portuguese sausage breakfasts, and hamburger steak. now i know where to go when i'm feeling homesick for some local food.

dance dance nerdolution.

i'll admit it right here and now: I LOVE DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION.
that's right, i said it.

i haven't played it in years (i could play some songs on difficult, thank you very much), but i'll always have a place in my heart for its catchy dance songs. after hearing one of my old favorites in genki sushi the other day i had to look up some of my long lost loves.

here are a couple:

call me a nerd, but i like it.
