fremont part 2

firstly, i want to thank my wonderful boyfriend, kevin, for making my new blog banner. he's a graphic design student at the art institute here in seattle. kevin, you're such a talented artist and i love you very much!

my original banner was made by my sister, joanne, who is also such a creative soul. thanks, jo!

after the sunday market yesterday, we walked around fremont a bit. it's such a cute town. kevin bought some vinyl records at jive time and i got a chance to see the fremont troll.

the troll is a piece of public art under the aurora bridge in fremont. in one of its hands is a real vw beetle.

we also stumbled upon the fremont vintage mall; a huge two story shop chock full of vintage items. they have tons of clothes, collectibles, dish ware, jewelry, and so much more!

here's just a small section of the vintage mall. as you can see there's so much look at.

*sigh, i wanted to buy everything in sight! can't wait to go back.

fremont sunday market

kevin and i went to the fremont market today! it's held every sunday in fremont and features local food, art, crafts and vintage/antique vendors. it was, by far, one of the best things i've seen in seattle yet! there were tons of indie craft booths and a whole indoor section of antiques and collectibles.

here's a little look down the fair.

we had some tasty pizza and strawberry lemonade. the pizza vendor had a huge stone pizza oven; pretty awesome.

and here's just a small corner of the indoor vintage sale. they also had books, furniture, knick knacks, postcards and repurposed goods.

i'm so glad they hold this market every sunday! can't wait to go back. there were too many things to see in one visit.

happy sunday, everyone. LOVE YOU!

good eats!

today we had lunch at one of my favorite restaurants, hana, on capitol hill. they have awesome japanese food.

sorry, the picture is a little crooked.

i ordered the saba today, which was pretty delicious (and stinky according to my family back home), but my favorites are hana's katsu curry don and their sushi. yum!

there's a great korean restaurant, mililani bbq, in hawaii that also makes saba, and although hana's was good, i still think mililani bbq's is the best. i think it's the hawaiian salt that makes it extra tasty! but regardless, i love you hana!

hope everyone's having an awesome day off!

coincidence? maybe, maybe not...

before i left for seattle, my family threw a great going-away bash for me. it was so nice for my whole family to get together. my sister was in charge of the decorations and came up with these beautiful giant tissue paper flowers:

check out her blog, emjay and me, for more pics.

while in the bathroom the other day, i did a little double take because our bath poofs were arranged like this:

coincidence??? you be the judge. i thought it was pretty funny. so funny that i actually took a picture of it.

COOKIE JAR MANIA!

remember that mushroom cookie jar i posted about the other day?

we ended up going back to goodwill to get it, and it is now proudly sitting in our living room.

along with that one, we also found this one:

adorable! kevin was actually really excited about this one. now we have two cookie jars.

and, of course, i can't forget about this vintage embroidered picture i got for $3:

it was a successful thrift store trip.

kevin loves lost

i personally don't watch "lost", but my boyfriend, kevin, LOVES it. sunday was the series finale and he attended a "lost" party where they had a finale showing.

kevin decided to dress up in a dharma initiative jumpsuit seen on the show, on which i had to sew this patch:

here he is donning his new (and nerdy) outfit. i hear the partygoers were impressed.

happy tuesday, everyone. i miss and love you all!

awesome goodwill store find

while browsing in the kitchen aisle, i came across THIS:

it's the cutest cookie jar! but, alas, i didn't buy it because we absolutely do not have any room in the kitchen for it. not too much counter space. at least i snapped a picture with my phone so i can remember the good times we had together...

happy birthday phil!

last night we celebrated our dear friend phil's 27th birthday. the festivities started at a hawaii themed restaurant called ohana and ended at a karaoke bar called hula hula. the sushi at ohana was pretty good and they even had spam musubis. it's like i never left!

i wanted to post more pictures, but kevin was in most of them and he doesn't want to show his face. he's trying to be mysterious or something. so on a side note: if there are any pictures of kevin on this blog, you won't be able to see his face. he's like wilson on home improvement. (i love that show!)

there's the birthday boy in his suit and tie.

tommy and jenine

me and jenine

it was a fun night. i met a lot of people and got to see a little bit more of downtown. hope everyone is enjoying the rest of the weekend! love you!

today was a baking day.

since my kitchen aid mixer finally arrived safely, i decided to make some snickerdoodles.

i also wanted to feature my new russian dolls for the kitchen. i bought them from the anthropologie store downtown.

they double as measuring cups! yay!

hope everyone's doing great. AND happy birthday janelle and phil!

fancy schmancy nancy downtown

one of my favorite places to shop/look around is a chain of stores called fancy, schmancy, and nancy, in downtown seattle. it's arts and crafts at its finest! they are three separate stores in a row on 2nd avenue that form a trilogy of shops. i got a chance to go there today to do a little shopping for some special girls back home.

fancy specializes in jewelry. so pretty and interesting!

schmancy sells plushes, vinyl toys, and other fun stuff.

nancy is all about paper goods. journals, stationary, you name it!

i KNOW my sister, joanne, would love it. maybe one day i'll be selling my own creations here. until then a girl can only dream...

u-district and some crazy stairs.

today, my boyfriend, kevin, and i took the bus over to the university district. it's a great place to hang out to shop and eat. there's american apparel, urban outfitters and red light vintage all on one street. heaven!

we ate at mr. lu's burgers. my mushroom and swiss burger was delicious, and they serve their fries with an awesome sauce.

we also tried to take the 49 bus to capitol hill from eastlake (our neighborhood), but the directions google maps gave us to the nearest bus stop involved conquering this:

and this was only about 1/6 of the way! how could google maps do this to us? we went about 3 flights and decided to turn back. lazy.

i've been feeling particularly homesick lately. trying to keep busy so my mind doesn't wander too much. anyway, love you guys!

i finally made it to seattle!

it was so hard to say goodbye to my family and friends, but i am excited to have new adventures here. the weather is nice and cool; much different than the hawaii weather i left behind. so far, my days have consisted of buying things for the apartment, cooking, job searching, setting up my craft area, and watching south park.

here are some apartment pictures:
the living room. most of our furniture came from ikea, urban outfitters and bought second hand.

the kitchen. i love the checkerboard tiles. you can see my prized possessions; my kitchen aid mixer and my cake stand.

and this is just a corner of the bedroom, but there's something about it that i love. i think it's the white jewelry stand against the color of the wall that i like.

that's it for now. more pictures to come! i love and miss everyone!
